The Policeman's new donut shop...

Tonight, at the 24 hour Starbucks in Laurel Village, there were swarms of police.  One after the other they came in to get late night pick-me-ups and chat with their colleagues.

The 24 hour Starbucks is a rare occurrence in San Francisco, as is pretty much anything that is open 24 hours.  But this Starbucks is filled with people chatting, students studying, and other random night owls.

So rare is a 24 hour vendor in San Francisco, that the three or four times that I drove past the building around midnight, I thought they had just left their lights on.  The truth of the matter is that more places like this Starbucks should exist.  With all of the night owls in the city, it is nice to see that there is a safe, warm, and cozy place to congregate at 2:00am without being home where talking or lights on could wake others.  Unlike New York, San Francisco is the city that sleeps.  It likes it's bedtime and it enjoys getting a good night's sleep.  I, for one, would prefer there to be more 24 hour places: cafes, restaurants, libraries, bookstores, takeout/takeaway places, movie theaters, BART, etc.  But alas, there are few.

Location: Laurel Village Starbucks, San Francisco, CA, U.S.A.
