Outstretching deserts, forests thick with foliage, cramped rooms, blank walls, bold colors, and empty boxes all evoke something different in a space.
Shared spaces are so different from those that one privately holds. Empty rooms, untrod paths, or a solo apartments feel different then their shared counterparts. When one is in a shared space feelings are different. For me, shared spaces fit are either cramped, hot, and filled with tension, or they are cozy, familial, and engaging.
Some great solo places to go in the bay area include (though you may see a smattering of other people from time to time):
- Crissy field, San Francisco
- The Berkeley Marina, Berkeley/Emeryville
- Mill Valley water walkway/bike path
- Biking through Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
- Walking through the Presidio, San Francisco
- Checking out the Cartoon Art Museum, San Francisco
- The Oakland Rose Garden
Some great shared spaces to go to in the bay area include:
- The SFMOMA, San Francisco
- Brunch at the Thai Buddhist Temple on Sundays, Berkeley
- Swing Dance in Golden Gate Park on Sundays, San Francisco
- Fort Mason, San Francisco
- Doloras Park, San Francisco
- Fairy Land, Oakland
It is the balance of shared and solo places that makes life so manageable. In a shared house it is nice to have a closed bedroom. In an open office it is good to have a self organized desk. On a windy day it is pleasant to stand on the beach and feel the salty spray hit you as the joggers run by. Yin and Yang.
