Dallas to Austin, Texas

As someone who had never before set foot in Texas, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. Stereotypes twisted through my mind and I thought of southern accents, cowboy regalia, country music, football teams, Fraternity boys, and BBQ. Stepping off of the plane in Dallas though, I found instead the soft lilt of the southern drawl and the graciously encompassing usage of the word "y'all."

The drive from Dallas/Fort Worth to Austin took just under 3 and a half hours and spread across a good portion of the state. Starting out, my eyes were pointed in the direction of JFK's shooting and the train tracks that spread through Dallas.

The long drive brought us from afternoon to evening to night and in the process we drove through the spread out state. The sunset seemed to reach from one end of the sky to the other, a whole 180 degrees of color. To one side the sky was a fog of purple and pink and to the other side there were streaks of orange and turquoise.

We passed small town after small town and while driving through each, we saw the stilted signs of every burger joint, restaurant, or hotel that you could ever want glowing like jeweled Popsicles in the darkness.

Location: Drive from Dallas/Fort Worth to Austin, Texas, U.S.A.
